Lipid molecules play key roles in many aspects of biology. Endogenous lipids have been shown to influence cell growth and death, metabolism, interactions with the microbiome, and inflammation.


Omega-3 fatty acids protect the body from uncontrolled inflammation by acting as a counterbalance to pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids. In addition, key metabolites of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids known as Specialized Proresolving Mediators (SPMs) are extremely potent molecules that orchestrate “resolution”, the healing process that follows acute inflammation. Once thought to be a passive event, resolution is now known to be an actively regulated process dependent on these bioactive SPMs.

Taken together, these proresolving properties make certain bioactive lipids attractive candidates for the treatment of inflammatory disorders. Using our proprietary HEALER technology, we unlock the powerful biology behind select endogenous bioactive lipids to enable the development of small molecule pharmaceuticals that can control the harmful aspects of inflammation without interfering with its protective functions.
